The GO Month is Gone

by Laurel Plum

January is typically known in the organizing community as GO Month. The GO stands for Get Organized. Well, it is now the first day of February and I guess those of you that have been around a while have noticed that I let it slip by without checking in much at all.

After a very busy, stressful and emotional Fall, early in this month, our family had to let go of beloved dog of many years due to cancer. Even though we knew for a little bit of time that it was coming, it really hit me much, much harder than I expected. It took my legs totally out from under me and completely stole any wind from my motivational sails. I have honestly made a very minimal attempt to just walk through the motions for most of the month.

In Getting Perfectly Organized,I mentioned that many times it is a single event in most peoples lives that seems to throw the whole house into a disaster zone and leaves us without a clue of where to even start.  Well, here I sit.  Now that the grief is starting to dull, I am becoming overwhelmed with the toll that the lack of care has taken on our home.  Ever been there?  Maybe you feel like you are there now, too?

Most of what has been written on LPO up to now has come from a spark from things I am doing in my own little corner of the world.  So I thought why should this be any different?  I have totally blown my plan for article topics out of the water and it seems silly to try to pick it up as intended. In the days to come, as I try to pull it all together around here, I will write about the things I am doing and thinking. There may be a few of you who could receive a blessing from our situation.

For those of you that have yourself and your home more together, hang in there with the rest of us. Share your thoughts.  There is never a one size fits all way of making a home.  We do not toatally have to figure it out on our own.  Sometimes we just need to try what others are doing until we find the right fit.  You can be a big help to someone by letting us know how you take care of business.  We will get back to quick tips and challenges as soon as possible. ;-)
