Books
I am always looking for a good book. I read for fun and to learn. I READ A LOT! I thought I would share a few links and a quick list of good books that may help you to get more organized.
About Books On Laurel Plum Online:
You may want to take a minute to checkout the LPO Declutter Scavenger Hunt 3 - Books and Shrinking Our Personal Library articles.
My favorite book sites:
I will not give the actual link, but I must include My Public Library and the link to their network catalog.
I have told everyone who even mentions they like books about Paberbackswap.com.
Bookcrossing.com because I often have a book that is ‘unpostable’ on paperbackswap.com, and I want to keep my library a specific size. This is a fun way to let those books go.
And of course one of our advertisers, amazon.com
. Because they have books and so much more at very reasonable prices with many special deals running all of the time.
Even though it is not a book site, I do quite a bit of reading using my RSS Reader instead of subscribing to a ton of magazines. What is RSS? Look HERE to learn more.
My favorite book accessories:
Kindle: Amazon’s New Wireless Reading Device
- For books, catching up on daily feeds, for reference, and so much more. Update: Now that I am not needed to run the teenager or my disabled parent everywhere, I have much fewer moments waiting around in the car. I do most of my reading at home. Seriously look into it if any of the below things appeal to you at all. If you have a ton of print books on your shelf already and only read at home, it may be better to pass.
- The kindle is a great tool for having many reading choices including news and feeds in one small package when you are traveling or have a lot of waiting time in your schedule.
- It is great for getting the best sellers inexpensively.
- You can download lots of free digital books all over the internet as well as most purchased e-books.
- You could benefit from carrying a bulky references for work, for church, or other functions. (You sales people might want to talk to your IT people and see if you can get e-book versions of your catalogs, sales media, and even select pages from your intranet. It would be quite the asset at lunch meetings. Followed up with a package of the real media later, of course.
)
Mighty Bright XtraFlex2 Light - Black
- Let’s the spouse keep sleeping.
Conceal INVISIBLE BOOKSHELF floating book shelf sm.
- Uses vertical wall space for a few current reads instead of adding another pile to the nightstand.
My favorite bookmark.
A big cup of hot chocolate - or warm in the summertime.
Individual books:
The books listed below all pertain to organizing, decluttering, cleaning, or something else having to do with home life or adjusting to changes. Not all are “How to” types of books. Make sure to check out the fictional or biographical choices.
In the future I hope to be able to do frequent book reviews for you as I read new books. You will be able to find them when I do in the sidebar under Categories - For Fun - Book Reviews. Do you have a book that you would like to recommend for me to read? It does not have to be about organizing. Please do take a minute to let me know (laurelplum [at] laurelplumonline [dot] com).
All of these books are really great. If I had to make a suggestion for which of them to read first, I would have to select Nesting: It’s a Chick Thing, Mrs. Dunwoody’s Excellent Instructions for Homekeeping: Timeless Wisdom and Practical Advice
and Sidetracked Home Executives(TM): From Pigpen to Paradise
. They not only have many tips and techniques, they are written in a way that is fun to read (how often can you laugh when reading a how-to book?), and all of them help you to find your own style and define your own priorities. The rest are listed in no particular order other than how they were situated on my book shelf.
