Sites to See for October 19

by Laurel Plum

Another week has come and gone. I have been under the weather and busy playing catch up all week so have not been able to write any articles.  But I hope to make it up to everyone.  We will be spending the next few weeks completely organizing the kitchen, setting up an easy to remember cleaning schedule and a few other little things in preparation for Thanksgiving. Feel free to invite a few friends to join you in the challenges. The more shared tips left in the comments, the more we all benefit.

Some of today’s links are overflow from the last Sites to See post and others are things I found today while beginning to catch up. The list is a little lighter this week, but there are some good ones!

Look and Enjoy!

Random Articles:

10 Unexpected Costs of Owning Things from Almost Fearless

What if… from Comical Coupon Cents. Spiritual pondering.

Here Lies Lucy…She’s a Real Witch from Pretty Paper Blog.  This article has details of things cooked up in the kitchen for her daughter’s Halloween themed birthday party. She had the kids feel all of the gross things like eyeballs, brains, and maggot covered hearts.  And LOVE the trunk turned casket for the witch skeleton!  P.S.  peeled grapes also make great eyeballs!

Learning Self-Discipline from OnePlace.com

Emergency Preparedness from Joys of Home.  Shows the fixings for a canister of foodstuff to last a person 72 hours through an emergency.

Can We Even Comprehend What These Numbers Mean? from Spilling Buckets.  Did you know that there was a national debt clock that tracked the growing debt in America?  Did you know that it ran out of numbers last week because the debt exceeded the capacity of the clock?

To Make:

This one is for a good cause. The Butterfly Project from Birds of Paper.

Bottle Cap Stampers from Cut Out + Keep.  Make your own ink stamps

Make your own moon sand, dirt cheap from Wise Bread

Packaging Templates.  Tons of templates for making small boxes for little gifts.  With Christmas around the corner these will come in handy. I got these from a link on Tip Nut which got many of them from Mirkwood Designs that has many other templates available.

Recycled Bath Mat from Ecologue. Tutorial on making a no-sew no fuss area rug using worn out towels. I would like to try using other worn linens for less plush rugs to be put in several places around the house.
I can see the kids having a great time helping with this one.

Kids and Educational Resources:

Pre K – 2nd Grade Checklist from Revitalizing the Working Mom.  This is a pictorial chore chart.  I love this idea, but wonder if the pictures might be too small. You could always increase the size on a copier or make your own using a piece of posterboard and clipart or pictures you find in magazines.

30 Simple Ways to Get Your Child Ready to Read from Simple Mom

Keep in Mind:

I came across each of these websites and stories either from Stumble Upon, RSS subscriptions, search engine pathways or from others on Plurk! I am passing them on to you as I found them – in good faith. I can not guarantee the validity or accuracy in any manner. I enjoyed reading them and I hope you will, too.
