This is the seventh article in a series detailing the essential tools necessary to have on hand as you are starting to get organized. Last week we talked about calendars, notebooks, file folders, stop watches and shoe organizers. Yesterday I suggested baskets to use while sorting and for storage. Today we are going to talk about music. I always listen to music when I am cleaning and working on projects. I move faster and stay more energetic when I listen while I work and if the music ends and I am still working, I know that it is past time for me to take a break or quit for the day. My little man calls them my “Happy CDs”. It really doesn’t matter what I listen to as long as the music is be upbeat. I do not necessarily pick music that I listen to any other time. It seems that movie soundtracks work best for me for some reason. Currently I have two Happy CDs that I rotate. They are In Between Dreams by Jack Johnson and the Coyote Ugly
soundtrack. If you can’t find a CD that works for you, make one or have any teenager you know make one for you. I programmed my MP3 player with songs like “R-E-S-P-E-C-T” and Man! I Feel Like A Woman!
, and others of the kind. I slipped in a nice slow instrumental to mark my stop time. Do what works for you, but I highly recommend that you really give this a try and that you try out some selections that would be unusual for you.

My secret weapon in this department is, and has been for years, CNN on low volume. Music distracts me, but CNN keeps me focused – strange, but true!
@MaryAnn: That’s not at all strange – It works for you! I think it is a great way to keep up with current events while getting things done!
