Ours is referred to as the "useful drawer" - if it's not useful, it doesn't belong in there. We use a set of interlocking white plastic drawer dividers of various sizes to keep like with like, so it's easy to see what's in there and where to replace items. One of the best compliments I have ever received was the reaction of my son's 8 year-old friend when he opened the drawer - his eyes bugged out, and he declared with great admiration, "You have EVERYTHING for homework in there!"
