The Silver Lining for The Day After?

by Laurel Plum

WTC 9/11

Every September 11th since 2001, for me has been a day of quiet reflection and remembrances of lives unnecessarily lost.  It is a giant exclamation point to the sad state of the world we live in.  We live during a time when attacks randomly occur at random points in several countries.

My mind begins to flood with every large and small occurrence of things I just do not understand.  My mind is full of fodder from every depressing headline ever written.  Terrorists, child abuse, disease, murder, injuries…..

My heart breaks and the pieces are still not enough to spread around.

The Silver Lining?

Then September 12th arrives and my mind turns to inspiring thoughts.  Immediately following the tragedy, most of the nation was in a state of shock, fear or anxiety.  But by the morning of September 12, 2001, many people had recovered their presence of mind to have already stepped up and taken action.

From all across the country people were headed toward Ground Zero ready to do anything possible to lend a hand.  The Red Cross and other organizations in every city were flooded with people who wanted to offer assistance even if it was only by giving the blood from their veins. Individuals, corporations and communities organized and did what they could.

Never in my lifetime had I before seen such an overwhelming display of heart and co-operation.  It was an outpouring of true humanity.  The best of what we are and could be.  On the morning of September 12th, the United States of America was of one mind.  There was little thought of the things that separate us into cliques, groups, factions, creeds, colors, classes, nor parties.   We were simply The People.

I am humbled, inspired, and full of hope when I remember September 12th.

Back to Normal.

This weekend I will send out the weekly Sites to See and Monday I will get back to Organizing, Decluttering, Simplifying, and Playing.  I just had a need to share something a little deeper today.  What are your thoughts?

I feel much the same way as you do on 9-11. Just a quiet reflection for the people who lost there lives.

I agree. 9/11 is and always will be a time for reflection and remembering those who lost their lives on that day and the families who lost their loved ones.
